Civil and Structural Engineering Lead - Owner's Engineer - Interconnector Converter Site - London - Full Time - Permanent

We're looking for a Civil and Structural Engineering Lead in London!

This role would suit an, ideally Chartered, consulting engineer with a strong background in Civil and Structural design & review for complex projects. Priority will be given to those with Interconnector Converter Site Development experience, but those with a strong technical background in other sectors will also be considered.

The Project & Your New Role:
The project concerns the Civil and Structural development of a Converter Site in the Isle of Grain. The Converter Site will contain the hardware that will facilitate the conversion between HVDC and HVAC, following its import and export through a 1.4GW bi-directional 525kV Interconnector between the United Kingdom and Germany.

The role as Civil and Structural Engineering Lead, acting as Owner's Engineer, will primarily involve interfacing with the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor, reviewing and checking designs of the Civil and Structural elements related to the Converter Site to ensure they are designed and constructed to UK standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Offering 'Owner's Engineer' services, you will review designs procured by the EPC contractor and ensure that the proposed and ongoing works are correct, compliant with UK standards, and commercially sound.
  • Managing the technical review of associated documentation.
  • Leading, mentoring and managing the workload of your team and resources in Germany where necessary.
  • Function as an independent advocate and risk-mitigator for the project's owner.
  • Attending the office of the EPC contractor in Holborn.
  • Liaise with the team in Germany, including visits.

Requirements:

  • Chartership with a suitable professional institution OR equivalent proven experience.
  • A deep understanding of Civil/Structural Engineering design gained through consultancy experience.
  • The required authority, expertise, and communication skills to speak plainly with the EPC Contractor about required amendments to the project.

Desirable:

  • German speaking.
  • Experience on Interconnector projects.
