Buyer - raw materials & sub-contract

An SME high precision manufacturing business who are experiencing strong business growth are looking to recruit an experienced buyer who has manufacturing experience.  The position is available due to an internal promotion of the existing buyer.

Your new role will take an active role in ensuring continuous material supply which will include raw material for machining works, finished goods that will go into final assembly, sub-contract spend and general goods and services. 

Your role will take ownership for ensuring suppliers are provided with purchase orders in a timely manner that ensures prompt delivery.  You will also manage commodity lead time and where necessary work with suppliers to help resolve pain points with on-time delivery.

You will manage existing and new supplier relationships and negotiate best pricing for material supply.

Your role will provide production and management with regular updates on material availability and delivery times.

You will work in close proximity to planners and stores to understand current inventory holdings that will ensure minimum stock holding that enables continuous material availability to production staff.

You will take a key role in managing the information held in the MRP system and for ensuring data integrity

The successful applicant will have existing experience as a Buyer within a manufacturing environment (ideally high precision) and will be fluent in the use of MRP systems. 

You will demonstrate a background of purchasing a wide range of commodities that go into machining and final assembly and will also have experience of working with sub-contractors for any machine work that gets outsourced.

You will be a clear and natural communicator with a strong ability to negotiate with suppliers.

Ideally you will be able to read technical drawings however working knowledge will be acceptable.
