Assistant Psychologist

We are looking for two Assistant Psychologists to join our team. We are an established Psychology Department within Cygnet Hospital Bierley, which is a 63-bed specialist mental health hospital.

The role:

Our team of five clinical and forensic psychologists and two assistant psychologists is committed to delivering a range of effective and evidence-based interventions that support the recovery and wellbeing of service users.

Under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, the post-holders will have the opportunity to undertake a range of clinical tasks and service evaluation across the four wards within the hospital, including structured assessments, group and individual therapeutic interventions and audits. Our four wards comprise:

  • A Female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

  • A Dialectical Behaviour Therapy service for women with a diagnosis of personality disorder

  • A Low secure male ward

  • A Low secure female ward

The majority of our Service Users are being cared for under the Mental Health Act. Service Users may present as highly distressed at times and may pose a risk to themselves and/or others. In addition, some service users may have a history of trauma and or violent/sexual offending.

The successful candidates will have:

  • An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology (accredited by the British Psychological Society)

  • 12 months previous experience of working with people within health, mental health or forensic settings.

  • Further post-graduate training in a relevant area of professional psychology, mental health and/or research design and analysis would be an advantage.
