It all starts with family...
Dr Meikle opened his hydropathic spa in 1868. Think clean eating, outdoor gyms and (questionable) hydrotherapy treatments – 19th century style.
Could he imagine that today, Crieff Hydro would still be owned and run by his descendants? Or that guests would be zooming about on quadbikes and Segways, instead of taking ice-cold dips on nurse’s orders? … Probably not.
A lot’s changed since we opened our doors, but our family bond hasn’t. Our 600-strong team is really one big extended family – including our CEO Stephen Leckie, Dr Meikle’s great-great-great-grandnephew.
It makes it a special kind of place that families love coming back to – not just year after year, but generation after generation.
From dry hotel to a wall of whisky
For a long time the strongest drink you could get here was a double ginger beer on the rocks: we were officially a dry hotel (if you ignore sneaky hipflasks) until we opened our first bar in 1994. You wouldn’t think it now, looking at our wall of whisky and mixologists shaking up perfect cocktails.
Other things have changed too. We built our first self-catering lodges and cabins in 1998. Then we opened Action Glen in 2003, followed by Big Country – the home of our legendary kids’ club.
All told, we’ve invested £40 million in the hotel and facilities in recent years.
Expanding the family
We’re now part of a family of ten hotels across Scotland and the north of England. Like true Scots, we’ve got relatives everywhere: from our outdoorsy cousins in Glencoe, to a much-loved great aunt in Harrogate.
We will motivate you to perform at your peak, recognising your achievements and rewarding them appropriately
Reasons? We’ll give you reasons.
We’re not just a great place to stay, we’re a fun place to work. The team feels like family. And there’s all the training and development you’ll ever need.
Looking for a 9 to 5? This isn’t it: the hours are long and the work’s hard, but it’s incredibly rewarding. We encourage everyone to be themselves – so you work in a team of memorable people, not robots.
It’s not all work either: you’ll get to know your team at our legendary socials, or by joining in the fun on teambuilding days at Action Glen.
And if you stay in our staff accommodation, you’ll fit right into the Crieff Hydro community. You’ll be well-fed too – with three meals a day.
Beyond Crieff, there’s our family of ten UK hotels – from the wilds of Glencoe to the spa-town refinement of Harrogate. And you don’t just get mate’s rates when you stay. We advertise jobs to our own people before we list them anywhere else – so you can learn new skills, boost your career, and see new parts of the country too.
