Transport Manager

Location: Suffolk Park (IP37 7FQ)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary: £46,718 per annum, 25 days holiday rising, pension, life assurance, employee assistance programme, wellbeing support, and flexible benefits scheme

As Transport Manager you will ensure the effective operation of the transport function, driving continuous improvements and further developing integrated transport solutions to deliver a premium and cost effective, compliant transport function.

As part of your key responsibilities you’ll:

  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislative and corporate requirements relating to transport
  • Manage cost and service in line with agreed KPIs, utilising management information to determine and act on trends
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained in line with OTIF measures
  • Contribute towards projects that drive down cost / improve service
  • Plan, manage and flex driver and vehicle levels to meet operational and service level requirements
  • Direct the daily activity to ensure a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for all transport team members
  • Ensure colleagues are aware of business developments and daily / weekly performance targets through active and effective communications
  • Liaise with the Warehouse teams to ensure all loads are completed accurately and loaded on time
  • Work collaboratively with customer services to improve customer satisfaction levels in line with agreed business targets
  • Ensure compliance with our health, safety and security procedures and contribute to risk assessments and the development of safe systems of work
  • Lead, promote and behave in a way consistent with our vision, values, and principals
  • Manage the Transport Supervisors by active engagement, regular communication, and regular performance reviews
  • Manage all disciplinary and grievance issues in line with HR policy
  • Support the company in its efforts to reduce carbon footprint

About You

We’d love you to have the following skills and experience, but please apply if you think you’d be able to perform well in this role!

  • National CPC qualification is essential
  • Experience in a similar role/working experience with industry standards and regulations
  • Experience of effectively managing a team with a commitment to self-development and team development
  • An understanding of Warehouse Management Systems
  • Excellent Customer Services skills supported by good commercial understanding
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrable change management abilities - ability to work within an evolving organisation and challenging the status quo, driving change in a business
  • Key influencer at all levels, pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • Planning and organising skills, high level of numeracy
  • An effective communicator at all levels - verbal and written
  • Commercially focused, with budget, cost, and KPI management experience
  • Experience of managing a fleet of vehicles from vans through to C+E Licenced HGVs
  • Detailed knowledge of transport planning and operations
  • Able to see the big picture and network view
