A welcoming SME is looking for a Finance Assistant to join their team on an ongoing temporary basis with the potential of a permanent position for the right person.

Accountable to the Income Supervisor the successful candidate will ensure that all income received into the business is correctly recorded.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that cash, cheques, vouchers and credit card receipts are sorted, coded and entered in both the System and Exchequer in accordance with company policy.
  • Set up and maintain records as appropriate..
  • Download and sort the main bank statements on an agreed frequency (daily / weekly) in the absence of the Online Income Finance Assistant.
  • Monitor and reconcile voucher, credit card and float accounts on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that cash is always stored securely. Obscure all credit card information once payment has been processed.
  • Assist with the post ensuring it is sorted, opened and distributed in accordance with company policy.
  • Provide absence cover for purchase and sales ledger activities and other members of the income team.
  • Ensure that all cash and cheques are prepared for collection by cash handling company.
  • Audit petty cash receipts on a sample basis. Report monthly results to the Income Supervisor.

Experience and Skills Requirements:

  • Proficient Accounts Assistant with experience of working in SMEs
  • Accomplished at entering data into accounting and other business systems with a high degree of accuracy
  • Familiar with the import and export of data from software packages
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers
  • Qualified bookkeeper or AAT studier, or sound experience of working on accounting ledgers with a good understanding of the double entry system
  • GCSE Maths grade C or above
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Experience of working on accounting system(s): Microsoft Business Central / Exchequer / Sage / similar
  • Familiar with a variety of business systems and quick to learn new systems
  • Competent with Excel (sorting, totals, filters and similar functions) and familiar with Outlook / similar e-mail package
  • Car driver due to the location of the office
