We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant with experience in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students with SEND, ensuring that they receive the personalised assistance and guidance they need to thrive in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEND, including those with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and other special needs.
- Assist the class teacher in implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) and accommodations to meet the unique needs of students with SEND.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and included.
- Encourage independence and self-confidence in students with SEND, while providing guidance and assistance as needed.
- Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to assess student progress and modify support strategies as necessary.
- Help students develop essential life skills, including communication, social interaction, and self-regulation.
- Assist with classroom management and behaviour support, employing positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques when needed.
- Support students during transitions between activities and classrooms, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress and discuss strategies for support at home.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, preferably in a school setting.
- Understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including knowledge of various conditions and effective support strategies.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, demonstrating empathy, patience, and understanding.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to promoting inclusion, diversity, and equity in education.
- Relevant qualifications or training in SEND support and intervention techniques (desirable but not essential).
