Job Title: Tax Consultant (Loan Reviewer)
Job Type: Contract (12 months)
Location: London

Opportunity Overview: I have a fantastic opportunity to temporarily join my client, JP Morgan, as a Tax Consultant.

Role Objective: The position is based in London in the Product Advisory Tax team of the wider Corporate Tax Department at JP Morgan. The team covers tax risks in business transactions within the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa) for a wide range of businesses conducted including trading, investment banking, private banking, asset management, treasury, and custody services.

Key Responsibilities:
* The role primarily involves reviewing documents in connection with loans and loan related products (loan agreements, term sheets, tax opinions) and advising colleagues in the Business, Legal and Credit in relation to tax (including VAT) risks.
* This will involve developing knowledge of worldwide tax regimes applicable to the loan product (both tax technical and practical), communicating tax risks succinctly and clearly to non-tax colleagues and escalating risks internally within the team as appropriate.
* The successful candidate will be involved in negotiating tax aspects of the documents and must be able to apply a commercial (yet technically sound) approach to tax risk management.
* The successful candidate will also work with external tax advisors, as well as partnering internally with global Corporate Tax colleagues, including colleagues covering VAT.

Requirements:
Essential Skills / Experience:
* The successful candidate must speak excellent English, must be professionally qualified (e.g. tax, law, accounting etc) and must work (or have worked in the past), in a law or accounting firm providing tax advice.
* It is essential for the candidate to like dealing with people, be of flexible disposition and that they be a good team player.
* They should be capable of communicating the tax issues to non-tax personnel and must be interested in learning the commercial context in which the tax advice is being given.
* The successful candidate must be capable of working under pressure in a commercial environment while not compromising technical or ethical standards.
* A willingness to approach new and unfamiliar issues in an analytical and logical manner is required.

Desirable Skills / Experience:
* A UK tax background is not a requirement.
* A language other than English would be helpful but not necessary for the right candidate.
* A working knowledge of FATCA and VAT would be helpful but not essential.
