Summary

Based at Bath Assembly Rooms in the heart of the Georgian City of Bath, your role will be to provide an exceptional visitor experience through sharing the stories of the building and guided tours. This storytelling will celebrate the property’s Spirit of Place, sharing the fascinating histories our curatorial team are uncovering with visitors. You will need to be able to hold and connect with audiences, from all over the world, in a dynamic environment as renovation works begin around the site. You will be the face of unique and bespoke experiences to bring the building to life for the visitor.

This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in equal instalments.

We are recruiting for a Storyteller to join our team to deliver an engaging experiences and tours at Bath Assembly Rooms. Annualised hours contracts give us the flexibility to cover busy periods and absences, while giving our team a regular monthly income. This role will be offered at 10 hours per week, with rotas being agreed in advance to include regular weekend working, as well as some evenings.

Reporting to the Senior Visitor Experience Officer, you’ll be working as part of a small team, and closely with the Visitor Experience, Visitor Welcome, and Project Teams. You’ll also work closely with volunteers, who will assist you in delivering experiences. 


What you'll be doing

Working with the Visitor Experience and Curatorial Teams you’ll write and deliver engaging guided visits and experiences. You will engage with visitors to get their feedback, to respond and help to identify new opportunities to generate income. You will assist in maximising bookings and have profitability in mind when working with others to devise new tours and experiences.

We'd love to hear from you if you have demonstrable 'storytelling' skills showing the ability to deliver the Bath Assembly Rooms' story with enthusiasm and flair to capture the audience's imagination.

  • Demonstrable communication, engagement and listening skills.
  • The ability to work in a team with others and on your own.
  • Have a highly creative, proactive, and flexible approach to your work.
  • Ability to confidently and proactively engage with visitor groups made up of people from a wide variety of cultural and social backgrounds
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of interpretative methods.
  • A desire to make a difference, show initiative and contribute to the core values of the Trust.
  • Good people skills enabling strong relationships, both internally and externally, to be built and maintained.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety compliance requirements in a dynamic environment.
  • Well organised and able to manage own time effectively.
