Senior Java Engineer/Technical Lead

£45,000 - £65,000 | 12-Month FTC |Newcastle (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite) |Permanent Opportunity Following Initial Contract| SC Eligibility Required

A leading technology consultancy is expanding its engineering capability and is seeking experienced Senior Java Engineers to help deliver complex enterprise platforms and large-scale digital transformation programmes.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of technical delivery, influence engineering standards and mentor other developers while remaining hands-on with modern Java engineering.

Following the initial 12-month FTC, there is a strong expectation that successful candidates will move into a permanent position.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing and developing large-scale Java solutions.
• Building and maintaining Spring Boot Microservices.
• Working with AWS-hosted cloud-native architectures.
• Leading technical workstreams and supporting solution delivery.
• Conducting code reviews and promoting engineering best practice.
• Mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers.
• Collaborating with architects, DevOps engineers and senior stakeholders.
• Supporting delivery through the full software lifecycle.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years commercial Java development experience.
• Java (JDK 11+).
• Spring Boot.
• Microservices architecture.
• AWS.
• REST APIs.
• CI/CD pipelines.
• Agile/Scrum delivery.
• Experience reviewing code and supporting other engineers.

Desirable Skills

• Docker
• Kubernetes

Security Clearance Requirement
Applicants must be eligible for UK SC Clearance.
This means you must typically:

• Be a British Citizen, hold Settled Status, or Indefinite Leave to Remain.
• Have lived continuously in the UK for the last 5 years.
• Have no periods of 30 days or longer spent outside the UK during that time.
