DS Smith are looking for a Senior HR Advisor to join the UK Packaging HR team. Reporting to the site Managing Director and HR Business Partner, The position will play an integral role in ensuring the delivery of the operational plan by driving the HR Agenda, supporting and providing guidance to Line Managers and undertaking a pivotal role in engagement on site.

The Senior HR Advisor will be confident in their ability, pro-active in resolving challenging situations whilst driving best practice and ensuring compliance with all company procedures, policies and employment legislation.

The key responsibilities associated with the role will include the following:

• Develop effective working relationships with sites MD’s/GM’s and senior leadership teams to enable a first class HR service to be delivered on site;
• Drive and deliver HR excellence using various tools including HR dashboard and Key Performance Indicators;
• Develop and implement People Plans in line with business needs;
• Provide HR guidance, support and expertise to relevant sites for all HR activity;
• Support line managers with Disciplinary, grievances, absence management and performance management and ensure all cases are completed within a reasonable timeframe and within legal framework;
• Assist HRBP to support all major employee change programmes and other ad hoc projects when required;
• Provide guidance and support with employee welfare issues and management of occupational health service on required sites;
• Ensure the delivery of HR programmes i.e. Healthy Hearts Initiative;
• Provide Support to other HR colleagues within the organisation as determined by the HR Business Partner;
• Responsible for coordinating the payroll process with Finance and SSC;
• Organise and manage all aspects of family friendly processes including maternity, paternity, adoption, parental and unpaid leave and flexible working;
• Conduct employee inductions for all new starters.
• Provide guidance and support on key engagement activities including OWN IT, employee Survey.
• Provide information for monthly reporting;
• Manage group and UK requests for HR information;
• Completion of general HR documentation, liaising with the SSC where appropriate;
• Responsible for updating and maintaining employee information on HRIS;
• Responsible for update and monitoring of all trackers to ensure all processes are dealt effectively and within a reasonable timeframe.
• Work in partnership with Line Managers and the Shared Service Centre to ensure a seamless recruitment process is delivered whilst ensuring all candidates are legally complaint to work in the UK and the correct selection strategies are applied;
• Track all recruitment activity and manage the process including advertising job position, follow up and contract paperwork is correctly issued;-.
• Support with all temporary recruitment with our third party suppliers.
• Provide guidance to line managers to ensure all employees receive a quality Performance Development Review;
• Identify training requirements and incorporate into the training plan
• Manage employee relations on site through appropriate body i.e. employee forum or works council;
• Work with the HRBP to provide leadership on the implementation of the Group wide talent management programme and ensure appropriate plans are developed and implemented.
• Provide guidance to line managers to ensure all employees receive a quality Performance Development Review;
• Identify training requirements and incorporate into the training plan
• Support HRBP with organising the annual PDR process.
• Monitor compliance and recommend any corrective action, keeping abreast of changes in HR and employee legalisation.

What we would like our candidate to have
• HR professional with experience of working within a HR function in an operational environment.
• Experience of working in a remote HR Team,
• Up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of HR practice, concepts and themes
• Experience in working in a multi-site organisation with various stakeholders;
• Experience of advising on HR issues and supporting the delivery of HR projects;
• Flexible and willing to travel to different locations as and when required
• Ability to build relationships with all levels and be able to challenge senior management team and MD/GM.
• Ability to lead by example and be resilient to challenging situations
• Intermediate level in Microsoft packages specifically word, excel and PowerPoint
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiating and influencing skills
• Ability to apply and interpret procedures and policies effectively,
• Ability to be confident resilient, have a professional attitude, be a team player and highly organised.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
• Employment law qualification
• Working in a unionised environment
