The Burford Recruitment Company are delighted to be working with a private Cotswold country estate on the outskirts of Cirencester to find a practical, hands-on, competent and experienced gardener with strong, technical knowledge in horticulture. As the sole Gardener on the estate, you will take ownership of high-end manicured gardens (2 acres), as well as developing kitchen gardens and maintaining the grounds around the estate (150 Acres).
Accountable to the Estate Manager, you will take instruction when required, but you will be expected to work autonomously and entirely independently the rest of the time. You will be comfortable working alone on a day-to-day basis, but as an intergral part of the small estate management team. you will also be required to work as part of the team when the needs arise. Day-to-day work will generally comprise of weeding, pruning, planting, watering, deadheading, and mowing, as well as any tasks specified by the Estate Manager on an adhoc basis. Assistance with weekend events may also be asked of you from time to time but with plenty of notice given.
Areas of knowledge/experience required for the role- The use of a range of hand and power tools including chainsaws, strimmers, mowers, pressure washers etc.
- Herbaceous perennials
- Formal lawn care
- Ornamental tree pruning
- Irrigation systems and watering pots
- Topiary
- Grounds maintenance - patio care, grit salting paths, mowing paddocks, chipping branches.
- Fruit and Veg propagation/production would be beneficial but is not essential.
This role would suit an experienced gardener with the skills and mindset to step up to take sole responsibility for a high-level garden. Equally, it would suit a head gardener who wants to focus on the management of the grounds and not management of a team.
