Applications are invited from suitably qualified HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientists to join a well-established friendly team in this busy department based in Crosshouse Hospital.

Applicants will possess a BSc Honours Degree in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent and be qualified to MSc level. Extensive experience working in a busy Haematology / Blood Transfusion Department at band 6 or 7 level is essential. Experience in Immunology would be advantageous.

Working as part of the team you will take a lead on the day to day organisation of a section of the department. You will prioritise work and manage a challenging workload. You will be able to work on your own initiative demonstrating good interpersonal communication and problem solving skills.

Your duties will involve performing complex procedures validating analytical data and operating complex analytical equipment. There is a requirement for a high degree of written and technical accuracy. You will write review and implement standard operating procedures maintain quality assurance standards and train all grades of staff. You will be directly involved with appropriate responsibilities for achieving and maintaining laboratory standards such as ISO:15189 and BSQR 2005.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week over 7 days which will include working some public holidays (including Christmas/New Year).

The department is currently in the final stages of implementing a fully EWT compliant 24/7 shift system which will include working lates overnights and weekends. This will be a contractual requirement for the successful candidate.
