I am seeking to appoint an SEN Teacher for an ASC class at a top special school in south West London. This well run and highly supportive school is for visually impaired pupils, including those who are multi-disabled visually impaired. The school is recognised as the best of its kind in the region providing specialist support and teaching for children aged between two and nineteen. The school also supports many schools throughout London in terms of training provision, it is this commitment to training that the school offers to its staff and is a significant factor in the low turnover of staff across the school. The school has also opened a centre of excellence for MSI pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
This vacancy has opened up due to a member of staff taking a year's maternity leave starting from April 18th. This would be a full time one year role. The Headteacher has indicated that they are not convinced that the teacher will return as this is their third child all under 8 and she's mentioned that she is unsure about returning to work.
Our school is situated in pleasant grounds and has ample parking. The school is very well connected to to London and the South East with easy access via road, rail and tube . Pupils, from nearly 30 Local Authorities throughout southern England. Most students attend as day pupils however the school has a number of complex needs students who stay as weekly boarders.
The class you would be teaching is a KS3 ASC class of 10 pupils and you will be supported in this with 3 full time TAs all of whom are highly trained and have worked with the class for over a year. This should ensure that there is a smooth transition for you and the students. The Headteacher has indicated that the TA team are very flexible and they are very willing. As long as you are comfortable managing a team of TAs you will have no issues. Behaviour is very good and the students are working between the old P6s to NC1b.
Experience teaching in a UK SEN school is desirable particularly with ASC students. Applicants with solid mainstream experience, QTS and a track record of good to outstanding teaching are also encouraged to apply.
