Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Food Specialist) - Burgess Hill

At Engage Education, we’ve specialised in recruiting higher-level teaching assistants (HLTA's) for over a decade, so we know a bit about finding the ideal school for you. We’re currently looking for an enthusiastic HLTA to work at a fantastic SEND school in Burgess Hill to start ASAP!

Our team has built an excellent reputation in the local area, and we’re looking for more high-quality teaching assistants to work with these schools to positively impact the progress and attainment of their pupils.

The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about providing outstanding provision for young people who may present with challenging behaviour. You will need to possess a good understanding of pupils with complex needs and display the confidence needed to work with pupil’s who experience social, emotional and mental health challenges.

This particular role would be well suited for anyone with a background in Food Technology within a school or a strong background or interest in Cooking. So anyone with experience working within the food industry or as a Cover Supervisor within schools, would be strongly encouraged to apply. For the role, you will be expected to help the children cook for the rest of the school every day, so a real passion for both cooking and supporting children with SEMH needs will be necessary.

About the role:

Our HLTA duties can include:

  • Working with small groups of pupils

  • Covering pre-planned lessons when the class teacher is unavailable

  • Providing intervention support

  • 1:1 support for SEND and lower ability pupils

  • Assisting with general classroom duties including display boards and preparing worksheets

The ideal applicant will have:

  • At least 6 months experience of working with children or in a school

  • Level 4 HLTA Qualification or, Undergraduate degree in Education

  • A real passion for education and improving the attainment of pupils

  • Bags of creativity for stimulating and engaging pupils
