Abingdon School has two exciting opportunities for Science Technicians to join their team.

Science Technician – The Role:

Abingdon School is seeking to appoint two flexible and self-motivated candidates to join our team of science technicians.

These roles will be based mainly in the Chemistry and Physics departments within our purpose-built Yang Science Centre which opened in 2015. Facilities are excellent and the sciences are popular subjects with the pupils. The department also has a thriving outreach programme, Abingdon Science Partnership, working with local primary and secondary schools as well as a number of other organisations.

The two Science Technician roles available are:

Part-time role specialising in Physics and Chemistry. This is a flexible role based on 25 hours per week, commencing as soon as possible. The salary is £16,340.07 per annum (£31,265 pro rata).

Full-time role specialising in Physics. This role is 40 hours per week and will start at the end of August 2024. The salary is £26,144.11 per annum (£31,265 pro rata).

Both roles are based on term-time working, plus a few additional weeks during holidays, a total of 38 weeks per year. These salary rates do not include the 2024/25 pay award.

Science Technician – Key Responsibilities:

The postholder of Science Technician with Physics specialism oversees the provision of resources across the Physics Department whereas the Science Technician with Chemistry/ Physics specialism will work flexibly across both the Chemistry and Physics departments.

Science Technician – You:

This is an excellent opportunity for suitably skilled and/or experienced candidates to join the team. Good problem solving skills with a friendly, calm and organised approach are essential requirements. Previous experience in a technical role in a school or academic institution would be advantageous.
