Tradewind is currently assisting an outstanding secondary school in the Kings Norton area of south Birmingham to find an experienced and highly capable Science Technician who can join their dedicated and talented science department right away. The role is full time asap or after Easter for the summer term.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in laboratory work within a secondary school or further/higher education setting. They should demonstrate the ability to prepare materials and equipment for secondary school science classes and possess familiarity with CLEAPSS systems and COSHH regulations. Holding an HNC/HND or a science degree would be a distinct advantage.

The school boasts excellent transport links and offers free onsite parking. We are seeking a full-time temporary supply candidate for a long-term position, with a minimum commitment of one term. The start date is as soon as possible or from next week.

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Supporting Science classes
  • Collaborating with teachers to support their timetables
  • Preparing teaching materials
  • Ensuring the safety of Science equipment in the classroom
  • Maintaining equipment
  • Assisting with displays and demonstrations
  • Managing stock and ordering new equipment
  • Reporting any concerns to the appropriate staff member

The successful candidate will have:

  • Recent experience as a Science Technician
  • Proficiency in stock control
  • Knowledge of safeguarding children requirements
  • The ability to maintain accurate work records and inventories
  • An updated CV and an enhanced DBS (DBS checks can also be arranged through Tradewind)
