Summary We are looking for a Rural Surveyor to join us, managing our diverse let estate portfolio across our Yorkshire Dales. Supporting the Estate Manager, property team and project team, you’ll play an essential role in our Landscape Recovery Scheme bid and support our nature, carbon, people strategy.
Our Yorkshire Dales portfolio includes large estates at Upper Wharfedale and Malham Tarn as well as further outlying properties. We need a Rural Surveyor to help us make major improvements for nature and the climate, while supporting our agricultural tenants and quality food production.
This is a fixed term contract until the end of June 2026. This is a part time opportunity of 22.5hrs a week.  We are open to discussing different working patterns within these hours. You will be contractually based at our Yorkshire Dales office at Malham Tarn, the role requires a mix of home and onsite working. Due to the travel required for this role, you must hold a full driving license with access to your own vehicle, business mileage claimable through expenses.
We are offering a salary circa £40,000 (pro rata) per annum.
What it's like to work here You’ll support the Trust’s Landscape Recovery Scheme bid which is being co-designed with our tenants and adjoining landowners. You’ll be involved in drafting appropriate tenancy agreements, grazing licences and implementation/collaboration agreements. As a key point of contact between the Trust and our tenants, you would also become involved with wider Estate Management / Rural Surveying work. As part of a supportive and friendly team who are passionate about what they do, you’ll draw upon the significant expertise of Trust colleagues in nature, ecology, land use and farming, as well as cultural heritage, and archaeology. The role is an opportunity to make a difference in the stunning Yorkshire Dales, utilising skills in Rural Surveying while developing a specialisation in Sustainable Land Management, tenancies and licences.   What you'll be doing Building upon the relationships we have with our tenants you will provide insightful advice, considerate relationship management and initiating forward thinking approaches to managing and conserving our land and buildings. You will be involved in delivering a range of work, including management of agricultural tenancies and agri-environment schemes, woodland management, access rights and boundary disputes and occasional acquisitions and disposals. Whilst working with our structured governance framework, we need you to be an effective and convincing champion of best practice.  Who we're looking for
  • a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
  • a highly motivated individual, with a passion for conservation and nature. 
  • a team player, who enjoys working in a collaborative working environment
  • good knowledge of land use, agriculture, asset management and land management
  • good working knowledge and experience in environmental issues, conservation, sustainable development and approaches to regenerative farming and nature base solutions
  • proven ability to analyse, interpret and resolve rural surveying problems and legal documentation using your findings to influence decision making and negotiation 
  • strong demonstrable consulting skills: listening, building trust and acting to deliver a high-quality service
  • an appetite for learning and personal development
