Risk Management Legal Counsel

THE ROLE

We are recruiting a Risk Management Legal Counsel to work closely with the Head of Compliance and Senior Claims Counsel to support initiatives which result from trends identified both internally and externally to the firm. They will attend Risk audits in the UK and Europe and assisting in delivering risk training.

Travel will be expected where necessary, to serve the business needs of all countries/offices across International, and with particular focus on Europe.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the team in the resolution of complaints and regulatory reports/investigations and assist in connected activities to protect the reputation of the firm

  • Lead the delivery of consistent and agreed training messages on mistakes being made by legal professionals

  • Support the team's drive to produce more internal training elements online, including a claims and insurance video

  • Contribute actively to the development and delivery of the team's Annual Action Plan and other firm-wide risk priorities

  • Support audits within the UK and Europe

  • Support the Head of Risk Management in relation to any material internal investigations

  • Support the Head of Compliance with any regulatory investigations

  • Assist with all legal, regulatory and compliance issues, incidents and queries which may arise, escalating those as appropriate to other risk specialists in the team

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Have a law degree and current practicing certificate and be willing the undertake specific risk management training/accreditation where required; or another relevant risk or compliance professional qualification

  • Have excellent communication skills

  • Be a self-starter

  • Possess a high level of commercial acumen and analytical skills

  • Have a sound understanding of risk and compliance practice gained in a fully developed enterprise risk management environment

  • Build and maintain strong relationships both within and outside the firm, acting as an effective brand ambassador

  • Be comfortable operating in sometimes ambiguous situations, demonstrating a flexible and collaborative personal working style

  • Be comfortable multi-tasking and working to sometimes conflicting timescales

  • Be financially literate and technologically savvy
