Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with an Ofsted rated "Good" specialist SEN school in Chester that supports children and young people between the ages of 4 - 17 with complex ASD and challenging behaviours as they are looking for motivated and reliable residential childcare workers to work within their on-site residential provision. This is a full-time permanent position 48 hours per week supporting children and young people between the ages of 8 - 17.

Your new role
In your new role as a residential childcare worker within this school you will be supporting children and young people with complex autistic spectrum disorders and challenging behaviours upto a 5:1 basis dependent on their needs in the onsite residential service. You will take a person-centred approach to care as to ensure that their needs are at the heart of all operations and ensure that they are supported in all aspects of day-to-day life. You will offer sensory development, use team teach as required and makaton and/or PECs to communicate as a large number of the young people are non-verbal. Other duties will include, but may not be limited to personal care, administering medication, access to education, behaviour management.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position you must have a minimum of 6 months referenceable experience supporting adults, children or young people in the last 2 years as well as full "Right to Work" in the UK. You will also need:

  • To be willing to work towards and NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in residential childcare
  • Previous experience with ASD or challenging behaviours
  • The ability to take a person centred approach to care
