Registered Manager - Children’s Home - Leicester

Main Purpose of the Role:

The Registered Manager is responsible for delivering high quality care to the children and young people resident within the Home. This means that they are responsible for delivery of all care services, as well as the strategic planning for developments within the Home, and all day-to-day management matters.

The Registered Manager is responsible for shaping and delivering the Homes Statement of Purpose, Childrens Guide, Location Risk Assessment and managing the team to achieve the standards identified within this. The Registered Manager is responsible for providing high quality care services that support the needs of the children and young people, to be an advocate for their well-being and to provide strong, motivational leadership to staff.

Leadership:

  • To manage a Residential Home and ensure the efficient operation of the service in accordance with the relevant legislation, procedures, policies and the Statement of Purpose.
  • To provide effective leadership by implementing organisational strategies, in order to enable objectives.
  • To ensure that the policies and procedures are implemented.

Service Development:

  • To produce a development plan for the service that ensures the delivery of high quality, clinically informed practice.
  • To contribute to the development of corporate policies and service initiatives, aimed at improving the service.
  • To be responsible for the effective development of a range of quality direct services to young people.
  • To be involved in recruitment of staff including short-listing, interviewing and inducting new employees.

Team Management:

  • This must, as a minimum, meet with Children’s Homes Regulations and National Minimum Standards.
  • To promote team development and effective team working.
  • To have line management responsibility for the staff team, ensuring that all staff receive appropriate induction, supervision, and annual appraisals.
  • To actively participate in grievance, disciplinary, health and safety and other staff matters to support the Director/Responsible Individual and Operations Manager.
  • To supervise and support the staff group ensuring that the team are developed appropriately to meet the specific needs of children young people in the Home.
  • To ensure that staff supervision continues to support both childcare delivery and staff development.
  • To develop individual staff training programmes in line with company plans and needs and supervise/provide observations for staff through their NVQ Level 3, 4 or 5 Award (Health and Social Care - Children and Young People).

Care for Children:

  • To ensure the effective implementation of the Children Act 1989 and the accompanying guidance and regulations (Vol.4 Residential Care), the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Children’s Homes Regulations 2001). This will be achieved in consultation with the relevant statutory body.
  • Demonstrably improve the lives of children and young people and ensure that they achieve the best possible outcomes, ensure that the home is managed effectively, efficiently and within available resources
  • To ensure that any matters in relation to child protection are managed in line with current legislation, national standards and the best safeguarding practice.
  • To maintain the highest possible standards of childcare and ensure that each child and young person’s agreed placement plan is fully implemented.

Management Responsibility:

  • To set and review targets and objectives for the home’s staff team in order to ensure that work is focused and has clear direction.

Qualifications

  • Diploma Level 3 in Children & Young People Workforce, Diploma Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent.
  • Achieve or Hold Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care Services (Children and Young People’s Residential Management)
  • Supervision Training
  • Safeguarding Training
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development
  • Diploma in Social Work
  • Training for EBD / LD services.

Experience

  • Significant experience of working in a residential setting with young people with challenging behaviour or in setting working with challenging young people
  • Experience in supervising/managing staff
  • Experience of managing resources
  • Candidates must be suitable to work with children & young people within a care setting (pre-employment checks)
  • Understanding of attachment and trauma in relation to young people.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with young people forming and maintaining appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with young people
  • Awareness of safeguarding issues and ability to safeguard the welfare of young people
  • Ability to work under own initiative
  • Ability to take direction and work as part of a team
  • Ability to work in partnership and liaise with other professionals
  • Basic household skills
  • Ability to recognise and acknowledge training needs and respond appropriately
  • Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours
  • Experience of Ofsted inspections.
  • Experience of professional’s meetings and working contributively with the professional network.
  • Level 2 or Level 5 Team Leader or Management qualification.
