Summary

Joining the hard working and dedicated team here at Wiltshire Landscape you will play a key role in maintaining our special places and ensuring these are presented to the highest possible standard.

This new ranger role will be based in the Stonehenge landscape working from Stonehenge Cottages and Countess Farm where you will be on site on a daily basis to see the positive results of the work you undertake

What it's like to work here

You will be ‘working in the footsteps of our ancestors’ on internationally important archaeological sites and species rich chalk grassland throughout the Stonehenge Landscape.

Covering more than 840 hectares and 10,000 years of history the Stonehenge Landscape is full of globally significant archaeological features and rich and diverse natural habitats with exciting opportunities to demonstrate your skills in the care and presentation on this World Heritage Site.

There is lots going on, including grassland management, practical estate maintenance work, regular volunteer work parties and ecological surveying.

What you'll be doing

Line managed by the Stonehenge Lead Ranger you will be directly involved with looking after NT land in the southern half of the World Heritage Site helping to protect archaeology and deliver conservation outcomes across our new and existing grassland habitats.

You will work both on your own and with other members of staff, as well as with several volunteer groups supervising them on a variety of practical tasks. It is all about being outside and getting your hands dirty, looking after our heritage and nature, and making our sites accessible for our many visitors.

With your endless passion for our work, you’ll help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your passion will inspire others to love these beautiful places as much as you do. We want you to engage with visitors, making time to talk to them, not rushing away to the next task. As an easily identifiable member of the Ranger team, on your best day you will be creating lasting memories for everyone.

You’ll also share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring special places like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. This will see you responding to queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken.

In this role, you’ll work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings. A full UK driving licence will be essential to fulfil the requirements of this role.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

  • practically experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes
  • happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work you’re doing, and why it matters

  • able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines
  • experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors
  • able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates
