We are seeking a Planning and Analytics Officer to lead on statutory returns and provide expert analysis and reporting of complex datasets. This role is crucial for enabling evidence-led decision making across all core activities at the University. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the planning team, supporting the Head of Planning and Business Insight to deliver the team’s priorities.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Lead on assigned statutory returns to HESA and the OfS, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and timely delivery.
  • Manage internal and external student surveys.
  • Produce quantitative and statistical information using data visualisation tools.
  • Contribute to institutional regulatory compliance management.
  • Develop expert knowledge of national policy and trends in the UK higher education sector.
  • Analyse and model data to support strategic decision-making across the university.
  • Manage queries, spreadsheets, relational databases, and produce high-quality reports.
  • Identify and manage key risks affecting the delivery of statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to or lead short-term projects within the service.
  • Monitor University key performance indicators and provide comprehensive reports.
  • Resolve problems with returns and reporting related to data quality and functionality of information systems.
  • Support the development of strategic analytical outputs for decision-making by Executives and Management.
  • Maintain shared knowledge and documentation of all management information report sets, systems, and procedures.
  • Manage the integrity and security of sensitive data in compliance with GDPR.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Good first degree preferably in Data Analytics or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a data analysis role, preferably in higher education.
  • Strong numeracy and statistical skills.
  • Knowledge of statutory returns and quantitative information presentation.
  • Proficiency in digital technology and IT systems, particularly in a Virtual Learning Environment.
  • Familiarity with student management information systems like SITS and/or Unit4.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Customer-focused approach to data service.
  • Effective team working and communication skills.
  • Good written skills, including the ability to write process maps and user manuals.
