We are currently recruiting for ON CALL PASSENGER ASSISTANTS.
The role of Passenger Assistant will be required to supervise special educational needs (SEN) children whilst travelling on transport.
Whilst carrying out your duties you must be punctual, smart in appearance and in full uniform, working alongside a PSV driver showing courtesy to all users of the service, colleagues and the public at all times in accordance with Equal Opportunities Policy and Service Code of Conduct.
You must demonstrate a flexible approach in this role to ensure the needs and safety of the passengers being transported are being met at all times. You will require a common sense approach to operational issues and empathy with operators at all times. You will be expected to have a good knowledge and a good understanding of H&S, IFE and the Code of Conduct, You with will be required to inform your line manager of any changes that affect your ability to work.
You must not allow any unauthorised passengers to be carried in the company’s vehicle without the prior consent of the transport controller.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To work as a team, to maintain a good atmosphere on the bus, to demonstrate sound work ethics, to have good customer relations, a polite friendly attitude with parent/guardians/school, to deal with residents and the members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner.
To ensure a responsible adult receives passengers whilst ensuring all passengers embark and disembark safely.
To assist driver in operation of any safety/adaptive equipment whilst ensuring all passengers who use safety and adaptive equipment are seated and secured in appropriate seats in accordance with manufactures instructions and policy’s, to ensure all passengers wear seatbelts and to assist in securing wheelchairs where necessary.
To be aware of incident and parent not at home/ parent late procedure, to ensure all paper work is in place and on board e.g. registers parent not at home form etc.
To ensure you do not signal the driver to leave the embarkation point until passengers are safely on board, seated and secured on the vehicle.
To inform relevant parties of any changes to route and child absences.
To ensure daily registers and all relevant paper work are on board completed and handed to driver at the end of the working day
To inform office of arrival time to schools, to fill and hand in school book (if school has one) to school.
To inform driver if any equipment is needed, to clean passengers in regards to body fluids or safety equipment and to inform relevant parties of any problems.
To maintain an orderly vehicle taking into account the safety and comfort of all passengers on board, to liaise between school/home and office.
Skill and Qualifications
Must be willing to undergo any appropriate training to meet the requirement of the service
Must hold a current enhanced DBS.
Must be fully conversant with the safety of passengers including those in wheelchairs and be aware of passengers needs while travelling on the vehicle in relation to the use of the appropriate specialist passenger safety equipment.
Must be relatively fit and well.
This in a part time ADHOC vacancy that will include early morning starts on short notice, to cover sickness, holidays and unauthorised absences.
Shift times on a daily basis are
6:30a.m - 9:30a.m & 14:30 - 16:30

Additional Benefits & Requirements
- 28 days Paid Annual Leave pro-rata for PAYE (inclusive of statutory holiday)
- Hourly rate as above (not age dependent)
