Part time, long term position. SEN Teacher Job - Foundation Phase ASD class in Cardiff

I am working in partnership with a fantastic primary school in Cardiff. The school caters for children between the ages of 3 - 11 years with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Alongside these pupils, there are also children with mobility impairments and SPLD. The school's curriculum is tailored to suit each child's individual needs, highlighting the need to treat each child as an individual.

I have been working in partnership with this school for a number of years and I am currently in the process of recruiting a Teacher with experience in teaching pupils with ASD.

The school are looking for a Teacher to work on a part time basis within the Founadtion Phase. This role will be starting after February half term and will be reviewed on a half termly basis with the possibility of being extended until the end of the academic year.

You will be working closely with the leadership team to support pupils within a foundation phase ASD class. You will be teaching a class of 4 - 7 children with varying levels of ASD. These pupils do not exhibit challenging behaviour. Impairment levels of the pupils vary, it is therefore extremely important that you are able to develop rapport with pupils and an understanding of their individual needs. You will be responsible for ensuring that pupil's feel supported and encouraged and will deliver the curriculum with learning goals at the forefront. You will also direct the Teaching Assistant, who will work closely with you to enhance learning.

To apply for this position, you will need:

Qualified Teacher Status and EWC registration
First hand understanding and experience of working with children with additional learning needs
Good behaviour management skills and the ability to effectively guide pupil behaviour
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - this will be important for building rapport with pupils, as well as staff members and parents
The ability to monitor pupil development and offer suggestions and feedback
