An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist within the Community Therapies Hub in Wigan. You will provide Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions, following the principles of the Model of Human Occupation for service users in the community. You will have a keen interest in mental health and some experience in this area, or be able to demonstrate transferable skills. You will work effectively with carers and the wider community and also other professionals to ensure quality of care. We are looking for a compassionate individual with the ability to communicate in a variety of settings , and be successful in demonstrating the Trust values and 6 C’s (care, compassion, commitment, courage, communication and competence). You will contribute to and evaluate service provision using a team approach to ensure we continue to provide a high level of care and will be required to offer support as appropriate to student

You will be closely supported to develop your skills by a small team of experienced occupational therapists and technical instructors. If you are newly qualified, you will be supported to complete preceptorship and have close support and supervision.

You may be involved in developing and providing a variety of appropriate interventions, including educational and therapeutic groups. At present, this may involve using technology and video calling.

The post is based at Leigh Sports Village, although you will be providing interventions and support to service users in their own homes and community within the Wigan and Leigh area, also using virtual or telephone platforms as appropriate. There is some flexibility in work arrangements due to the current government guidance relating to Covid-19. There will be a level of autonomous working, but there will always be access to supervision and support within the strong Occupational therapy and wider team. The core hours are 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday, however the team may be required to be flexible on occasions based on the service need.

This post is subject to an enhanced with children’s barred list Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. Successful candidates will either have a valid DBS check with the Trust or will be required to pay for the cost of the DBS Disclosure which is £47.50, the cost of which will be deducted from first salary.

IMPORTANT: The role will involve regular travel across multiple sites in the North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust catchment area. Therefore, the post holder must be able to meet the travel requirements of this post. Please indicate on your application how you meet this requirement.
