This is a unique and exciting opportunity for anyone who is passionate about supporting people with dementia, and is creative in finding ways to do this in an acute hospital ward.
The Meaningful Activities Service support people with dementia to be involved in activities that they enjoy to help their general wellbeing, and keep up their usual daily routine and skills. The post holder will be part of the Meaningful Activities Service within Patient Experience across Leicester’s Hospitals, creating and providing activities and environments to meet the needs of each individual.
The successful post holder will be expected to rotate through a variety of clinical areas in line with service delivery, and work a pattern of days, evenings and weekend shifts.
You will be required to organise a wide variety of activities based on the persons individual needs, which may include reminiscence, games through to arts and crafts. You will work with small groups of patients and with individuals depending on need. The post holders will also be required to ensure that staff and volunteers are supported through training in the delivery of meaningful activities with patients.
We need a person who communicates easily and sensitively with people with dementia and their families. You should be someone who has initiative, who can organise your workload and time, and work independently. You will need to have experience of working with people with dementia and/or experience of providing activities for individuals or groups. You will be provided with training relevant to the post.
This is a rotational post, which provides the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical settings across University Hospitals of Leicester, including older people’s wards, Emergency Department, Acute Admissions wards, and other areas.
Hours of work: Day, evening, weekend working and Bank Holiday, to include a variety of long and short shifts.
