What we’re looking for
A unique opportunity has opened for a strategic thinking, highly motivated lawyer looking to establish yourself within a fast paced, rapidly growing technology business. This is an unusual role that would see you working as sole counsel with a fantastically creative team, helping to protect their clients’ film and TV assets from piracy.

They are looking for a highly commercial lawyer to join Entura International for a very ‘hands on’ role as sole Legal Counsel, reporting to the CEO.  You will be comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced environment where you need to take ownership of projects and run with them.

Key projects include:

  • Working with our enforcement team to protect our film and TV clients’ IP against piracy (knowledge of copyright, safe harbour principles and notice and take down procedures preferred)
  • Reviewing, negotiating, drafting and advising on a wide variety of commercial contracts/documents - services agreements, IT agreements, IP enforcement notices and other documents for day-to-day business transactions
  • Continuing the process of getting us GDPR ready and keeping us that way (data is a big part of our business)
  • Managing and protecting Entura’s IP including trade marks
  • Potential for more corporate work including possible fund raising

The Role
This role requires a confident generalist with knowledge of both IP and commercial law who is used to working in a fast paced ever changing environment 

The role will be very varied, but the key tasks will be:

  • Delivery of all business affairs and legal work
  • Involvement in a wide variety of projects and commercial work, including negotiations with our clients (some of the biggest names in entertainment)
  • Provide expert and strategic legal advice to senior management
  • Working with every team across the business providing effective, reliable, jargon-free advice
  • Managing regulatory affairs, corporate governance, compliance and risk management matters
  • Pro-actively developing internal processes alongside other key stakeholders
  • Supporting strategic and business priorities
  • Creating, developing and maintaining legal precedents, policies and procedures
  • Keeping up to date with regulatory and other legal developments that will impact the business

The ideal candidate:

  • A UK (or similar) qualified solicitor with strong academics, at least 5 years PQE (with at least 3 in private practice)
  • Qualified with a leading private practice firm and spent time in-house within a reputable organisation working with big name brands. Time spent at another start-up would be highly beneficial
  •  Experience of advising on commercial, intellectual property, IT and data protection legal matters
  • A strong grounding in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts is essential
  • Some fundraising experience in series A/B investments would be desirable but not essential
  • Start-up DNA: be resilient, gets things done, 80/20, are comfortable with uncertainty, adaptable to change, used to working in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment and know when to fight for the right thing and when to say no
  • Advise in a commercially pragmatic manner, using legal processes to create meaningful commercial outcomes
  • Be analytical, a problem solver and have an ability to implement effective and creative solutions in a legally compliant manner
  • A strong leader and have the confidence to challenge decisions
  • Have the ability to work with employees at all levels of the organisation in an open and highly collaborative environment
  • Have a genuine interest in risk management and/or compliance and appreciate the balance between risk and revenue generation
  • Be driven and able to apply existing knowledge and approach across a very wide range of legal (and quasi-legal!) areas
  • Have a passion for technology and software
  • Well–organised, with the ability to set up and manage administrative systems
  • Highly motivated and cool under pressure whilst maintain a sense of humour
  • Comfortable and adept at working in a client-facing role
  • Ability to provide sound legal advice on an independent and unsupervised basis
  • Evidence good business judgement in time sensitive situations
