LEAD SOFTWARE ENGINEER

BIRMINGHAM (3 Times Per Week)

UP TO £75,000 + 10% Bonus + Benefits

Join a globally known telecommunications company as a Lead Software Engineer. Your mission: to simplify the lives of developers by offering a suite of low-friction, fully managed cloud capabilities. As a hands-on Engineering Manager, you'll guide your teams in crafting Infrastructure as Code (IAC) solutions using innovative tools like Pulumi. Your leadership will be instrumental in accelerating cloud development, ensuring security, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Collaborating closely with counterparts and other Engineering Managers, you'll shape our cloud capabilities to deliver top-notch experiences to developers every step of the way.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, nurture, and expand a team of engineers focused on developing cutting-edge tooling and IAC capabilities, enabling rapid deployment from idea to production.
  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap aligned with business and developer needs, driving automation and efficiency.
  • Champion automation initiatives, eliminating manual workflows wherever possible.
  • Provide mentorship and career guidance to team members, unlocking their full potential.
  • Advocate for agile practices, fostering a metrics-driven culture of continuous improvement.

Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp diverse concepts and work across the full developer lifecycle.
  • Passion for automation and a commitment to minimizing manual intervention.
  • 4+ years of software product development experience, with proficiency in Typescript, Java or Python.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a team leadership role, guiding career growth and mentorship.
  • Familiarity with cloud principles; prior AWS experience is a plus.
  • 3+ years' experience with agile methodologies and cloud computing on AWS.
  • Bonus points for expertise in DevOps tools, processes, and culture.
