HM Land Registry ("HMLR") and Inspire People are partnering together to bring you an exciting opportunity for an IBM infrastructure Engineer to act as a technical role model, actively support live services and help build capability within the IT Operations Practice. Starting salary of £41,206 to £44,938 dependent upon interview assessment plus excellent Civil Service benefits and 28% pension contribution. Flexible, hybrid working from multiple locations across the UK, including London, Plymouth, Nottingham, Swansea, Liverpool, Durham, and Kingston upon Hull.

We are looking for an IT Infrastructure Engineer - Systems Programmer (IBM Mainframe) to join HMLR's Transformation & Technology Directorate.

HM Land Registry's existing software systems and services form part of the critical national infrastructure, safeguarding land and property ownership valued at £7 trillion. This enables over £1 trillion worth of personal and commercial lending to be secured against property across England and Wales.

Job description

The IT Operations Practice sits within the Transformation & Technology directorate and is responsible for the performance and delivery of all technical infrastructure which underpins and supports the organisation. It consists of a number of technical teams which provide support, monitor and operate technical solutions. The practice contains a mature IT Infrastructure engineering community who are responsible for the support and maintenance of HMLR's technical infrastructure.

This role sits within the System Programming Team supporting primarily their back-end Mainframe platform and is part of our Core Services cluster which also covers the core databases performance monitoring of applications and 24x7 system monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for maintenance of IT Infrastructure and platforms, as part of a wider infrastructure engineering community.
  • Represent your specialism on relevant projects and programmes, providing advice and guidance to ensure services are developed in a supportable design
  • Plan and manage technical changes related to your IT Operations specialism. Implement technology to ensure non-functional requirements and service levels can be achieved, engaging with other technical specialists where appropriate.
  • Pro-actively support live services. Taking the responsibility for the resolution of live incidents or escalation, as appropriate. Support continuous enhancements to live services and systems to prevent service outage.
  • Work with the delivery practice to construct and maintain realistic estimates and plans for Infrastructure deliverables.
  • Produce and maintain technical team documentation, including working with the Lead Instructure Leads in the documentation of designs of new solutions.

May require occasional planned out of hours working in order to deal with IT changes and maintenance.

Essential skills
To have working knowledge and practical experience in:

  • Mainframe data and application technologies
  • Installing and supporting IBM z/OS across multiple systems in a Parallel Sysplex configuration
  • 3rd party Mainframe software and its deployment.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to interact and build working relationships with engineers and other stakeholders
  • Experience of technical information gathering, analysis and problem solving, enabling you to deal with escalated queries.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of information security.

Location

Hybrid working available from the following locations: Birkenhead, Coventry, Croydon, Durham, Fylde, Gloucester, Hull, Leicester, Plymouth, Swansea, Telford or Weymouth.

Expectation is to be working from an office 60% of your time (3 days/week) with travel as and when required to Plymouth (expensed) which is where the main Data Centre and Technology team are based.
