Have you got a DBS check done for you? Have you City & Guilds NVQ 3 in Cookery or equivalent or Food Safety Certificate Level 2 or equivalent qualification? Are you staying in or around the Portsmouth area?

The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, organising, and preparing nutritious, high-quality meals for patients, staff, and visitors.

Role - Chef (DBS)

Rate of Pay - £14.00/hour

Location - Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, Portsmouth PO6 3LY, United Kingdom

Job Type - Full Time, Contractual, Initially for 3 months with the possibility of extension

Hours - 37.5 hours in a week and hours are 06.00 to 14.00 or 08.00 16.00 or 11.00 19.00. (7 days on 2 days off / 8 days on 4 days off / working 2 weekends in 3)

Start - As soon as completing the documentation

Essential Requirements:

  • City & Guilds NVQ 3 in Cookery or equivalent for the Catering Industry
  • Food Safety Certificate Level 2
  • Allergen Level 2 Training
  • Basic DBS
  • Significant experience in catering environments producing for large numbers

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create well-balanced and varied menus that meet the dietary needs of patients and adhere to health and nutrition guidelines.

  • Consider special dietary restrictions and requirements, including allergies and cultural preferences.

  • Prepare and cook meals according to established recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.

  • Ensure food is served at the appropriate temperature and follow all safety and hygiene protocols.

  • Work closely with dietitians and health care professionals to understand specific dietary requirements for patients with medical conditions.

  • Adapt recipes and meal plans as needed to accommodate individual patient needs.

  • Maintain high standards of food quality and presentation.

  • Conduct regular taste tests and inspections to ensure consistency and adherence to standards.

  • Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and track food costs.

  • Minimise waste through careful planning and efficient kitchen practices.

  • Supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance and training as needed.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and hospital policies.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Chef, preferably in a hospital or health care setting.

  • Culinary degree or relevant certification.

  • Knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements for various medical conditions.

  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment, tools, and food preparation techniques.

  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
