Our public sector client, based in York is looking to recruit, on an interim basis, a Heating Supervisor. This post will play a key role in delivering an efficient and effective gas servicing, responsive heating system repairs and new installations service.

The Heating Supervisor will assist the Heating Team Leader with line management of Heating Operatives, surveying duties and contract/project management of external contractors for all owned clients owned properties.

Our client is looking for someone that has strong time management and workload management abilities coupled with experience in public-facing roles with a focus on excellent customer service.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Day to Day supervision of heating engineers and apprentices, including the recruitment, induction and probation of staff, attendance management, conduct and managing individual performance etc, as well as proactively address all day-to-day problems and issues that arise both on site via gas/ heating engineers, subcontractors etc.

Play a key role in service development; working with the Heating Team Leader to develop ways of working to provide an effective and efficient service. They will recommend changes to policy and procedures, to keep our client at the forefront of technological advancements, to aid effective and efficient working.

Work with the Heating Team Leader to ensure that value for money is achieved and a high quality of workmanship is maintained. When problems occur the post holder will have to use their knowledge and experience to find appropriate solutions which will not exceed the budgetary constraints.

Ensure that all works completed by both contactors and in house service are carried out to a high standard and provides value for money; and are in compliance with the 1998 Gas Installation & Use regulations.

Daily contact with tenants and customers; discussing requirements and agreeing resolutions to issues. Tenants and customers may be upset and confrontational and these contacts will require tact and diplomacy to ensure a successful resolution.

Daily contact with staff in the Building Services Team and Housing Management team; dealing with queries and providing technical advice and assistance.

Daily contact with contractors, through site visits and progress meetings, monitoring the standard of work. They will have daily contact with suppliers ordering materials and negotiating deliveries, often having to fulfil the role of mediator, solving problems and disputes as they arise.

The ability to organise and prioritise workload across a variety of clients and multi-trade workforce effectively.

What we need from you:

  • Industry recognised qualifications, as a minimum, ACS (Domestic); CCN1, CENWAT, CPA1, CKR1 HTR1. A commercial qualification is also desirable; or a willingness to undertake a commercial qualification.
  • The required qualifications knowledge and skills to be Gas Safe registered.
  • Thorough working knowledge of current gas regulations, landlord responsibilities, heating installations and the legislative requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of defects identification and repair specification.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of using IT, including mobile technology.
  • Evidence of a customer focused approach to service users.
  • A confident, independent and effective decision maker.
  • A clean UK Driving Licence.
