Head of Business Development - Europe

In support of a globally recognised International Aerospace and Defence Systems company that specialises in the development and supply of high-performance drive and control technology to the defence, aerospace, power generation and marine sectors, we are seeking a Head of Business Development - Europe who will be based from their German manufacturing facility near Stuttgart and will be focused on the management and development of their defence sector activity.

This role is directly responsible for and oversees the management of all related business activities conducted in the European region. This role involves Senior leadership of a multi-disciplined, matrixed team supporting our Clients' Defense Control Systems Business Unit and the Defense Sector of the Space and Defense Group.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-    Work with the DCS BU Leadership Team to develop a business unit strategy at the global and regional level with measurable metrics to support Defense Control Systems Business Unit with the Defense Sector as an adjacent support interest.

-    Coordination of the Sales Support and Bid and Proposal budgeting, plan execution, and support of onsite personnel to ensure general performance achieves internal/external customer satisfaction to maintain a viable extension of DCS in Europe.

-    Support customer business and program reviews

-    Support of new business proposals originating from the region's defense base. 

-    Promotion and strengthening of Senior level customer intimacy with our Clients' military customers, partners and suppliers in the region.

-    Promote local implementation of Sector and Business Unit level strategic initiatives

-    Create and manage a positive work environment for employees to achieve strategic and operational objectives. 

-    Management of day-to-day administration, preparation and submittal of the annual operating budget as well as coordination of activities and needs across the Defense Sector and Business Units. 

-    Promote recruitment, growth and retention of employees.

-    Forge relationships and identify synergies across the organization to facilitate and synchronize coherent and actionable plans to be owned and executed.

-    Managing a team of 2 and supporting annual sales of circa US $35m.

Principal Accountabilities

-    Achieve timely resolution of outstanding issues through effective day-to-day communications with customers, internal management and functional organizations

-    Coordinating and working with the Sales Team in the Reading Operation will be a key factor in creating and capturing value from customers

-    Represent special inter and intra Sector projects or initiatives

-    Conduct regular check-ins with all levels of customer counterparts (internal/external) to communicate program related issues where the internal program teams may need assistance and to collect voice of the customer feedback to influence the execution strategy and tactics of the program execution teams

-    Establish and maintain key relationships by working with key Federal gov't economic and community development, policy makers to assure appropriate influence for company interests

-    Act as a resource and internal consultant to support our Clients' strategic planning process at the Sector and Business Unit levels.

-    Provide local program, technical and administrative support to the Business Unit directors for Defence Controls Systems and other Defence Sector BUs, as needed. 

-    Promote and maintain customer intimacy with government and industry customers and partners to create new opportunities and revenue streams

-    Lead, sustain and expand the organization's book of business through the leadership and/or support of proposal teams and business capture campaigns originating within the European Region as well as support the same for proposals originating out of the region.

This is a position that requires an overall general knowledge of key customers, programs, politics and economic conditions of the region and the correlations to the Defence Sector. This role will also participate in projects across multiple regions representing Business Development in disparate markets. Additionally, there will be occasions where significant effort and guidance will be required to assist in coaching and guidance.

Qualified candidates shall have a Business or Technical Degree. 8-12 years of combined business development, engineering, and/or program management experience is required. Must possess strong communication and presentation skills, sound problem-solving skills, have the ability to prioritize and be decisive, and the ability to lead large groups of people through a strategy towards a common objective. Collaborative Facilitative Leadership skills are essential to construct and communicate strategic objectives.
