Ground Handling & Apron Specialist

Are you our next Ground Services Specialist? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Airfield Team.

What is the role?

The Ground Services Specialists support the practical delivery of the Ground Handling and Apron strategy through the Ground Handling license. Being responsible for the development, delivery, and integration of projects you will be engaging with airlines and their third-party operators to drive improvement across the airfield.

The operation and optimisation of airfield infrastructure and processes, relies on a high performing community delivering a safe and efficient airfield environment, as Ground Services Specialist you will collaborate with the community to deliver a safe and just culture whilst improving performance across several KPIs

This is an exciting time to join the GHA and Apron team, as we deliver Gatwick's Ground Handling Strategy. The successful candidate will get involved in workstreams such as Common User Equipment, Stand automation and the planning of Airside EV infrastructure.

What will you be doing?

  • Setting up the Ground Handling Agent (GHA) community for success whilst also holding them to account to deliver the commitments within the Schedules of the GHA Licence.
  • Supporting the airlines, GHA community and airside operators in driving a safe and Just Culture.
  • Supporting the delivery of On Time Performance by creating a safe, efficient apron environment.
  • Identifying and tracking trends, in incidents, events and turn performance failures, working with stakeholders to develop and initiate improvement plans.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of the Ground Handler strategy.
  • Play a key role in project concept, design, plan, and delivery, including evaluation, selection, governance, completion and handover.
  • Explore new ways to find ‘Value add' and reduce waste by following a clearly defined structured approach to optimise existing infrastructure, processes, and people. Measured via cost analysis and successful AOR.

Do you have what we are looking for?

  • Ground Handling and airport operational experience at a leadership level is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver projects collaboratively through internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in the delivery of EHS objective, implementing safety initiatives and managing the operational performance of third parties.
  • Facilitating meetings with key external stakeholders at various levels to review the Ground Handling licence commitments. Must be confident presenting in front of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to review and understand both legal and commercial documentation related to the GHA licence or AOL (Airside Operators Licence).
  • Bias for action with a strong performance orientation.
  • Strong decision maker effectively driving change and continuous improvement.
  • Persuasive with strong influencing skills across all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good resilience, being able to adapt well in the face of potentially challenging scenarios.
  • Skilled and competent at Incident investigation and problem solving (ideally Kelvin TOP SET)
