Graduate Trainee-Production Management

Posted 15 November by Simpsons Malt Ltd

Simpsons Malt are the UK’s leading, independent malting Company, with 150+ years of successful supply to brewers and distillers with a customer range from the smallest craft & micro brewers to multi-nationals in the UK and around the world.

Our Tweed Valley Maltings site and Head Office in Berwick upon Tweed in the border country between Edinburgh and Newcastle has and continues to receive significant investment. One of the largest malted barley production facilities in Europe its focus is the production of a quality product.

We are offering a structured path for the right person to start a career in production/manufacturing management and grow their skills with us. For the first two years you would be in a production support role, assisting a small team of Production Managers with some day to day tasks around consumables, crewing, reporting and data analysis. You would also learn our production process while assisting those managers in their lean journey/process improvement.

This would then lead into two years in one of our production process controller roles. These are the senior operators in a small team on shift(in what is a 7X24 operation). This role has significant responsibility itself, but is very much seen as developmental towards a management position.

While day to day it monitors the process and ensures production of a quality product-an increasing focus is around improvement activity, working in small teams to improve safety on site, reducing both waste and energy usage, growing capacity and improving processes.

After two years in that role you could have demonstrated you have what it takes to assume a Production Manager role yourself.

This role will suit someone with a technical mindset, who can get their heads around a complex production process. While very much production orientated, you may well have gained a degree or HND in a related discipline like engineering and certainly have that desire to make things work better and solve problems. You must also want to keep learning as you may not have been involved in brewing, distilling or malting before, but our technical knowledge is what we sell to our customers and so we will help you towards professional qualifications in malting.

Communication skills will be a big positive for the successful candidate along with analytical skills and continuous improvement mentality.

The successful candidate will receive:

-A competitive salary, but in addition a plan for career development and salary progression

-Company Bonus

-Excellent benefits inc 31 days holiday inc stats
