Role Title: Foresight Research Analyst

Duration: Initial 3 months (possible extensions)

Location: Warwick / Hybrid - On-site 1 day per week

Day Rate: Circa* £450 per day

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our high-profile Utilities client are undergoing an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, they are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

As a Foresight Research Analyst you will play a crucial role in a new forward-looking Foresights team. You will build the foundations of our foresight work by developing our research base and innovating our research and analysis methodologies.

You will look across the social, technological, economic, environmental, political, legal, and ethical factors that could impact the energy trilemma (Net Zero, Energy Security, and Economy and Efficiency). The quality and scope of your research and analysis will be fundamental to how the Future System Operator, UK government and energy sector understands and responds to uncertainty and change.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Stay current with trends affecting the energy trilemma (UK/global).
  • Develop/conduct research on these trends, their interactions, and impacts.
  • Identify/address organisational knowledge gaps; commission external research as needed.
  • Foster collaborative relationships for knowledge and data sourcing.
  • Ensure impartiality in research and analysis methodologies.
  • Ensure high-quality research outputs; support inferences and policy development.
  • Promote internal knowledge sharing; maintain research repository, facilitate forums.
  • Collaborate on developing tools and technologies for the Foresight team.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking an expert with experience in analysis, intelligence, futures, foresight, or horizon scanning, or with equivalent experience in related fields. The ideal candidate is curious about potential futures and motivated to contribute impartial, impactful insights to decision-making processes. Key requirements include:

  • Research Skills: Strong capability in designing and applying various research methodologies, with a systematic approach to information and data collection. Ability to ensure impartiality in research across different domains.
  • Analytical Skills and Systems Thinking: Proficient in analysing information, critical thinking, and adopting a whole-system perspective to examine interactions. Skilled in managing uncertainty and conveying its implications in research.
  • Communication and Relationship Management: Effective at communicating research findings to diverse audiences and building relationships to gather information. Able to facilitate learning.
  • Strategic Thinking: Understands the needs of research users, capable of designing research that addresses strategic challenges and opportunities.
  • Technological Proficiency: Knowledgeable or capable of learning data analysis, AI technologies, and visualisation techniques for information analysis and presentation.
  • Project and Research Management: Able to lead and manage projects and research, ensuring delivery meets standards, budget, and time constraints.
