The role

Reporting to the Fire Safety Manager your role will be to ensure that Camden's property portfolio which covers circa 3500 residential blocks, circa 3000 commercial properties, 80 schools and new build developments are maintained to the highest fire safety standards ensuring compliance with Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Building Safety Act, Building Regulations, British Standards, and other relevant guidance (where appropriate).

This role is responsible for providing technical advice for fire safety covering but not exclusively residential, education and commercial premises.

You will provide technical fire advice for capital schemes to the value of £2m per scheme and new build developments to the value of circa £10m p/a. As a subject matter (fire safety) expert you will have direct impact on critical decisions that in turn will impact project spend and budgets.

Your role will oversee the production of, fire risk assessments (where appropriate), fire strategies and technical reports that will inform risk priorities and in turn the invest programme for Camden providing independent technical challenge where appropriate.

You will be responsible for commissioning/production of technical fire reports for buildings of high risk and agreeing remediation works to address specific fire safety risks.

About you

This role is multi-faceted and with that, we welcome applications from a range of backgrounds related to property management and building safety. You may have previously within the Fire Service, Health care, Student Accommodation, Housing or Education.

In addition, you will knowledge and experience with one or more of the following:

  • Level 4 Diploma in fire safety (or equivalent).
  • Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers.
  • Recognised fire safety qualification, CFPA Fire Diploma, NEBOSH or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of key guidance such as LACORs, Approved Document B and BS 9999.
  • Experience in handling complex fire safety issues with high-risk implications e.g., sleeping accommodation including producing pragmatic proportionate solutions.
  • Ability to undertake Fire Risk Assessments and audits. Conforming to the relevant guidance and be able to write appropriate reports and inform local teams, services and committees.
  • Effective presentation and training skills.
  • A pragmatic, collaborative and determined approach to work
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others and work well under pressure.

Work Environment:

  • You will be required to carry out regular and frequent visits residential blocks including individual properties, commercial properties, schools, and new development projects to inspect and assess fire risks, this will involve visits to dirty and noisy building sites and wearing personal protective equipment.
  • You will be required to attend meetings out of hours and be occasionally contactable for emergencies outside business hours.
  • The post holder will be required to work in an 'agile' way in line with Camden's policy of a paperless and flexible work environment, which may include working at home or in a different office for part of the week.
