The Role

Due to impressive company growth, our client, a specialist fire and security systems business, is looking to add an Estimator to their business. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Estimator will be vital to the financial and technical aspects of ongoing and new projects by providing detailed cost analyses and estimations of projects and responding to tenders and client requests.

  • Analyse and interpret project documents (drawings, specifications, etc.) to prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for the installation of fire and security products in large commercial and residential properties.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other professionals to gather all necessary information for bid proposals and identify qualification elements that ensure we provide a qualifying bid
  • When submitting bids, identify areas of opportunity including submission of clarification questions that favour the business position.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and consultation sessions with clients to ensure qualifying, accurate and competitive bid submissions.
  • Utilise estimating software and tools to prepare and present estimates, including quantitative take-offs, pricing, and scheduling.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to negotiate prices
  • Provide support and insights during the contract negotiations
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of historical data on pricing, clients, and projects to inform future estimates and bids.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and practices.
  • Support all divisions within the Company by providing timely and precise estimating services.
  • Collate, and reflect on proposal / bid feedback to understand improvements and our market position on price

Requirements

To be successful in the role of Estimator, you will be a commercially astute estimating professional with either formal qualifications in quantity surveying or similar, or qualified by experience. Some exposure to the fire and security sector would be advantageous but those with estimating experience in any construction, mechanical or electrical field will be considered. You will have a strong understanding of financial and project management principles and be highly proficient in estimating software and excel. Due to the need to occasionally travel to client sites, a full driving licence and your own transport is preferred.

Holiday - 20 days + BH, increasing with length of service up to 25 days.
