Purpose of the Role

The role is a dedicated Environment Manager for the King’s Cross Estate. It requires site-based service delivery within our Property Management division, focussing on the implementation of the client’s Sustainability strategy for their mixed-use estate comprising multiple properties. The successful candidate will be site-based.

A key focus will be supporting the site-based property management team in the delivery of asset-level sustainability performance and promoting best practices. The successful candidate must have the ability to develop strong working relationships with clients, surveyors and site teams to lead on strategic deliverables and grow client and occupier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate should have a holistic knowledge of sustainability and wider environmental, social and governance issues for the built environment.

An Environment Manager will be required to deliver services including but not limited to;

  • Understand the client's Sustainability strategy. Lead the implementation of this strategy and coordinate team efforts accordingly. Deliver services and data reporting in line with this as agreed with the client
  • Manage sustainability reporting to King’s Cross Estate senior management and client
  • Ability to extract, analyse and interpret data from a variety of sources (e.g. energy, water, waste, air quality), working with site and engineering teams
  • Attend and at times, lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders, share data and promote innovation
  • Ensure regulatory and legal compliance, including compliance with S106 requirements. Lead on environmental compliance requirements relevant to building services operations and facilities management and demonstrate a good working knowledge of ESOS, MEES, and all UK environmental legislation;
  • Maintain the King’s Cross Estate EPC Register and keep the wider team and client updated with upcoming expiries
  • Understand and manage the site Environmental Management System which is externally audited and certified to ISO 14001
  • Communicate through formal presentations and reports, produced to high-quality standards
  • Drive improvement in sustainability performance for the clients’ assets
  • Assess and monitor sustainability performance at an asset level, identifying priorities and the implementation of interventions
  • Promote and enable a culture of improvement, encouraging and motivating property management teams to go above and beyond the minimum sustainability standards
  • Promoting and implementing external sustainability standards and applying for sustainability awards for specific properties
  • Be a main sustainability point of contact, supporting occupiers and the property management teams, including site-based managers, surveying teams working centrally, and service providers
  • Produce case studies and marketing materials demonstrating team and asset-level success. Share and encourage best practices within the sector and the company as a whole
  • Support, manage, drive, coordinate and champion innovations in sustainability which may include template development, process improvements, quality and accuracy improvements, technology opportunities and case study promotion
  • Provide general sustainability support covering areas including environmental legislation and compliance audits, sustainability reporting & disclosure, tenant engagement, health & wellbeing, waste management, travel planning, social value and biodiversity (referring where necessary to the wider Savills Earth team)
  • Work with consultants to deliver assessments as necessary including but not exclusively, ISO 14001 & ISO 50001, NABERS, WELL, BREEAM, Accessibility, and Biodiversity
  • Organize regular sustainability meetings with the management team, and ensure the implementation of agreed actions
  • Work with the Energy and Carbon Manager to support the delivery of the King’s Cross Estate Net Zero strategy
  • Work with the Neighbourhood Manager to support the delivery of social impact commitments for the King’s Cross Estate
  • Coordinate and chair the quarterly King’s Cross Sustainability Occupier Forum, and maintain good relationships with occupiers to progress projects/initiatives between Forum meetings
  • Manage the King’s Cross Area Travel Plan and work with occupiers to ensure the achievement and improvement of sustainable travel targets. Undertake a bi-annual travel survey
  • Organise school and university work experience programmes
  • Working with the Neighbourhood Manager, coordinate the collection of data for King’s Cross Estates social value reporting;
  • Engage with King’s Cross Estate strategic partners, including the London Borough of Camden (e.g. sustainability and transport teams):
  • Represent King’s Cross Estate at industry events (e.g. Camden Climate Change Alliance events/meetings);
  • Facilitate annual green roof monitoring by the London Wildlife Trust;
  • Implementation and management of an ISO 14001 system and support on other ISO systems as required, likely to include ISO 50001 and ISO 20400;
  • Oversee site-specific projects as appropriate, such as indoor air quality, green building certifications etc. Act as point of contact and project interface for external consultancy teams managing ESOS, SECR, Environmental Management Reporting, Pollution Monitoring, Energy Auditing, Waste services, TM44s, certifications and air quality assessment;
