Role Outline

Due to the maturing nature of battery energy storage technology, microgrids and innovative digital grid solutions, this is a very interesting time to join one of the largest electrical engineering business' in the world at a major inflexion point as it pivots to embrace new markets.

Benefitting from a huge install base from other parts of the group, you will lead the electrical engineering function in the delivery of complex and varied HV projects spanning markets which include marine/ports, EV charging, rail, renewables and heavy industries.

Shifting away from what has been an historically DNO and 132kV+ focused business, this part of the business will now target delivery of circa 10-15 simultaneous live schemes with values between £2m - £8m.

As Engineering Manager, you will help lead the change, bringing fresh perspective to the team and through cheerleading the diverse and challenging opportunities open to the business. You will be a driven, visible leader who brings positivity and solutions to the team.

You'll also need to be pragmatic and commercially minded, curbing things being over-designed and ensuring deadlines are achieved. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you'll also embrace client facing responsibility as you attend meetings to determine the right technical solution and ensure this is communicated to the design team.

Requirements

  • Substation design experience. Preferably at 11kV-132kV for non-DNO businesses.
  • Experience managing teams of 8 or more staff
  • Electrical engineering qualification (preferably degree and preferably CEng)
  • Experience managing multiple projects
  • Need to be able to work cross-department.
  • Enthusiastic motivator.
