The Council is committed to deliver a world class special educational needs and disability service that ensures improved outcomes for children, young people and their families in a responsive, timely and transparent way. The Education, Health and Care Planning (EHCP) Service was created to deliver the Council’s vision, working with our local SEND community to provide an innovative, creative and efficient personalised service to children, young people and their families.

The EHCP Planning Service is a multi-disciplinary and customer facing service, responsible for coordinating a range of statutory functions, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the Children Act 1989. Although we work within a statutory framework, relationships with young people, parents, carers and key stakeholders are important to us. We work with internal Council services and Health partners to develop an integrated and seamless pathway for children, young people and their families.

We are currently piloting some innovative approaches: single social care transitions team (adult and children); a supported and employment team to improve training and employment pathways and opportunities for young people with special educational needs and disabilities; an integrated keyworking team to support early identification and intervention; a new centre acting as a SEND front-door for families; and co-production at the centre of everything we do. We value our people and take care in creating the right environment for staff to succeed at work. Our employees play a key role in shaping the service priorities, systems and processes.
