Role: Economist

Contract: Permanent

Location: Westminster London and home based hybrid

Salary: £60,000 plus company performance bonus up to 7.5% of salary

We have an exciting opportunity to join an industry leading organisation as an Economist. As the Economist you will working alongside the Chief Economist, in order to monitor, analyse, report and advise on economic, fiscal and market developments affecting this newsworthy industry sector in the UK and globally.

You will be responsible for developing robust data sets, economic intelligence, analysis and arguments that inform government policy positions, communication internally and external with a variety of bodies on key issues within the economic, industrial and taxation agenda.

The successful candidate will possess strong numerical, analytical and reporting skills, with exceptional levels of attention to detail as data produced will be used in a variety of mediums internally and externally. They will have an Economics or Business degree or equivalent, with proven professional experience in a business, government or research environment.

This role is working on a hybrid base 50/50 with Tuesdays as a mandatory office based working day. You would have opportunity to travel adhoc in the UK to industry events to present your findings.

Role and responsibilities:

  • As an Economist you be responsible for economic monitoring through regularly researching and analysing key economic, sector data and statistics
  • Monitor, evaluate and brief on key research reports on economic agendas
  • Maintain appropriate data management processes - data capture, reporting & analysis
  • Provide data and analytical input to policy development and political communication
  • Support weekly and monthly data reporting releases on UK market
  • Provide quarterly economic and market briefings to committees and associated working groups
  • Develop economic content for a variety on internal and external media publications
  • Provide economic analysis, intelligence and written input to support wider political agenda
  • Manage regular and ad-hoc survey projects, develop evidence and write briefing paper
  • Represent the organisation at internal and key external stakeholder events
  • Support with briefing staff, members, government and other stakeholders on key issues and analysis
  • Respond to internal/external requests for data analysis in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Run quarterly surveys, including supporting pre- and post-survey webinars and providing key business insights
  • Research, develop and contribute economic analysis to key reports and projects as required by the wider business

Skills and experience required:

  • Economics, Business or Data Analytical degree or equivalent
  • Demonstrable professional experience in a business, government, trade association or research environment
  • Experience of applied economics and research, familiar with key sources of economic intelligence
  • Ability to translate and communicate data into reports, straplines and presentations
  • Strong numerical, analytical and reporting skills, competent in analytical methods
  • Competent in handling volumes of data in Excel
  • Ability to work in a small team at pace
  • Excellent communications skills both written and verbal
