We are recruiting for a Document Reader to join a police major crime team based in Blackpool.

Key Responsibilities

Perform the role of Document Reader/File Prep Officer within Major Incident Rooms (MIRs). To deliver professional, efficient and effective case file preparation of homicide & complex cases. Support the FMIT officers by assuming responsibility for the prosecution file whilst providing advice and assistance on matters relating to the preparation of prosecution files.

Key skills

  • PIP 2 or equivalent experience of investigating serious crime
  • HOLMES trained as Reader/Receiver
  • Previous experience of working in a Major Incident Room
  • Good communication skills, in particular listening and questioning skills, with the ability to engage effectively and demonstrate empathy with and understanding of people from diverse communities and backgrounds, sometimes in potentially confrontational situations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, the ability to think logically and the ability to gather and record information effectively within set procedures, in an easily understood format and style.
  • Problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to effectively analyse information and to identify and assess risk and vulnerability in order to set priorities.
  • Experience of working within a team environment with demonstrable organisational and time management skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities and to work effectively under pressure.
  • Good IT skills with the ability to learn and effectively utilise new systems in order to extract and analyse data to progress/record investigations.

This temporary role is for an initial 12 months (until March 2025), working full-time, paying an initial £17.57 per hour PAYE. An Umbrella equivalent is also available.
