About the role

As the Despatch Manager for our packaging site in Lockerbie, you will be responsible for the safe and effective day to day management of the despatch department, including transport and forklift trucks, taking charge of any issues occurring within the department whilst on shift. One of your key focus areas will be health and safety, ensuring that this is at the forefront of any task carried out whilst continually developing an environment that promotes constructive involvement and engagement for the despatch function, enabling the team to deliver a world class service to delight our customers.

Working closely with other departments within supply chain and production you will need an understanding of the principles of pull planning in a manufacturing environment. You will also liaise with transport companies (including the DS Smith Logistics Depot) to continually assess transport solutions being provided to maintain an acceptable OTIF and manage costs within budget.

Other key responsibilities in this role include collaborating with internal stakeholders and colleagues to improve team and cross-departmental relationships and ensuring skills are maintained through appropriate training. You will support the site management team in the delivery of key objectives and performance target levels, identifying potential costs associated with exporting goods and minimising while managing compliance.

About you

  • Demonstrable experience in a warehouse environment

  • Team leadership/management experience

  • A strong passion for Health and Safety delivery and continuous improvement

  • FLT experience

  • Understanding of manufacturing to fulfil customer requirements via a warehouse

  • Strong understanding of the principles of pull planning in a manufacturing environment

  • Good analytical, communication, time management and process improvement skills

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft packages, particularly Excel

  • Health and Safety, and other relevant qualifications, would be advantageous
