Deputy Head of Tyche Life

An exciting role reporting to the Head of Tyche Life working to craft the future of actuarial modelling using Aon’s Tyche Life product suite for the Life (re)insurance industry with the intention of taking over the role as Head of Tyche Life in the near term.

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our London office.

Aon is in the business of better decisions

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive, diverse team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

What the day will look like

Many roles will say, “No two days will be the same”, but with this role, this is truly the case. A typical day might have geographic diversity as you deal work with Aon’s global sales teams or global client base where Aon is selling or implementing Tyche or with members of the Tyche Life teams across different continents. You will also encounter a wide range of subject matter diversity as you review progress on client engagements or with the software & product development teams on the next key developments of the Tyche Life product suite. The role will also have management responsibility, working with the Head of Tyche Life, for being responsible for the profitability of Tyche Life within the STG Division at Aon, and hence at regular intervals will involve monitoring and reporting on the performance of the Tyche Life team, celebrating success and / or developing action plans if plans are not being achieved.

How this opportunity is different

Aon acquired the Tyche software suite in 2022 with a vision for Tyche to be at the heart of its new Strategy and Technology Group (STG). Aon believes Life (re)insurance actuarial technology is ready to be shaken up and through this role you will work with the Head of Tyche Life to lead the change, to evolve the strategy, and engage with clients at the sharp end to see Aon’s vision implemented. You will need to buy into this vision and be an advocate or evangelist within Aon and with our clients to see it implemented.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

To succeed the successful candidate will combine client facing delivery experience with an understanding of, and an ability to shape, Aon’s Tyche life software strategy. To do this, working alongside the Head of Tyche Life, they must buy-into the vision that Tyche can radically change the actuarial software landscape for life (re)insurers and be evangelistic both within and outside Aon communicating this vision.

Client needs and engagement: The role starts from knowledge of clients in the life (re)insurance sector, the legacy technology in use, its strengths and weaknesses and a belief that with a new solution clients can be served much better. The candidate will have gained knowledge and insight from real hands of experience working with software at multiple clients. Although, no-one person can know every client & every issue, the candidate will have breadth of knowledge of the software in use across the globe, and of the issues and needs arising from limitations in that software. To succeed, the candidate needs a passion to do things differently, to coordinate solutions that enable better decisions, to challenge accepted compromises and to deliver meaningful change. This will involve getting hands dirty, acting as the Engagement Lead with Aon’s delivery teams, to deliver new solutions for clients and with Aon’s internal teams to ensure better solutions are possible. Aon is a firm believer in collaboration with partner organizations and hence you will explore and engage collaborative partnerships with third parties so as to enhance the opportunity for success.

Software strategy: The second and equally key part of the role is to work with the Head of Tyche Life to exert influence over Aon’s software strategy as it affects Life (re)insurers. The vision, embedded at the heart of Tyche Life, is for a solution that addresses and solves the problems too often accepted by life (re)insurers and associated vendors. This will involve embracing innovation, using judgement to resolve developments to prioritize and enabling and empowering the teams responsible to deliver the solutioned needed. This will involve being responsible for the priorities for the continued development of applications such as Tyche, the Tyche Model Generator, Tyche Flow and Tyche Data(base) Integration but also an openness to embrace new ideas and solutions if client needs emerge that cannot be met by these foundation tools.
