Database Team Leader - Unlock Your Data Wizardry!

Do you have the technical skills to manage complex data on a modern database system? Do you enjoy solving problems, spotting and fixing bad data, striving for perfection? Could you lead and manage a small team dedicated to providing the highest quality of data to our analysists?

As the Database Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in managing our database system, which houses the National Registry for Radiation Workers (NRRW) and the Nuclear Weapons Test Participants Study (NWTPS). These datasets are essential for understanding the effects of occupational radiation exposure and contribute significantly to epidemiological research worldwide.

The group consists of two teams: the database team and the analysis team.

The database team has four members who are responsible for collecting and uploading data to the databases, developing the database software, and handling the administrative aspects of the database management.

The analysis team has three members who perform in-depth statistical analysis of the cohort data and publish their findings in reputable scientific journals. The team also offers expert guidance to UK and international scientific organizations and assists UKHSA in training and advisory tasks, such as providing a statistical consulting service.

  • System Management: Oversee the maintenance, security, and ongoing development of our database system.

  • Evidence Generation: The analysis of data from the NRRW cohort forms the basis of most of our published evidence. Your leadership will directly impact our scientific contributions.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience/Qualification: Undergraduate degree and/or qualification in Information technology, Database management or Health Information related subject, or equivalent experience demonstrating an ability to handle and manage large datasets.
  • Experience of using SQL including SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) working with tables, views, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Basic knowledge of data security, information governance including GDPR and confidentiality issues.
  • Tactile communication style with the ability to converse with an array of internal and external stakeholders. You will have the ability translate technical information confidently!

Location

Your primary base will be at our Radiation Chemical and Environmental Hazards Division site in Chilton, Oxfordshire. However, we offer flexibility to incorporate remote work as needed.
