Database Administrator

The Lance Mason Group are having another huge period of growth and a position has become available to add a Database Administrator to the team.

About the Role:

As the Database Administrator you will be supporting the groups Business reporting requirements and maintaining the suite of reporting application tools. This person needs to be able to work closely with the Business Information Analyst to support the technical requirements for delivering data to the group business

The role will be working with all areas of the business and making a big difference to the companies reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the BI function within the business to deliver structured and meaningful data to empower the business to make insightful decisions.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the databases and being highly focused on maintaining performance, integrity, replication and security across the Production databases environment
  • To be responsible for monitoring database activity and ensuring that index statistics, database growth/storage, replication, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are in place and functioning correctly.
  • Monitor and manage the environment ensuring high availability is maintained at all times
  • Ensure that any issues related to HA/DR processes (Clustering, database mirroring, log shipping and transactional replication) are investigated and resolved
  • Carry out BAU work as required to meet the needs of the business
  • Assist Development and other teams with database design/code reviews, database backups/restores and other activities
  • Investigate and resolve database performance issues
  • Liaise with external vendors in the planning, implementation and support of 3rd party software solutions
  • Ensure that database security and permissions are managed according to best practices
  • Take an active role in improving the SQL Server database estate
  • Ensure that the DBA documentation set is updated and expanded where necessary
  • Perform SQL Server upgrades and migrations

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in development and production database administrator roles.
  • In-depth experience of the following technologies: -
  • MS SQL Server
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 (2012 desirable)
  • Replication / High Availability
  • Demonstrable experience of performance tuning and query optimization
  • Experience of working in a virtualized environment
  • In-depth knowledge of Failover Clustering, Log shipping, Database Mirroring and Transactional Replication
  • Skilled in problem resolution and management
  • Experience of the full Software Development Lifecycle, utilising both Agile and Waterfall Project Delivery methods

You’ll have a proactive, pragmatic attitude with experience of working in a busy, flexible environment. A strategic and innovative approach to problem solving is a must and you’ll need to be a strong team player with the ability to successful organise yourself and others.

Technical skills and Experience:

  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Proven experience of writing SQL and handling large datasets
  • A sound knowledge of databases and data modelling
  • Database design and programming (TSQL)
  • SQL Server Integration Service (jobs)
  • SQL Server Analysis Services (Tabular model)
  • Excellent communicator with an eye for detail
