Data Developer opportunity - Newcastle Under Lyme

I am currently working with the UK's largest distributor of decorative surfaces specialising in flooring, worktops, laminates, compact, panel products, solid surfaces and wall panelling who are actively seeking a Data Developer to join the team. With an annual turnover of over £135 million, they take the business of fulfilling their customer's needs very seriously. To this end, their regional branches offer the benefits of nationwide coverage, whilst being especially responsive to needs at a local level. The business is 100% committed to distribution, investing constantly in a best-in-class nationwide network that can cope with the dynamics of its industry; delivering products on a Just-in-Time basis. Their 90,000 sq. ft. central distribution hub is linked to their regional branches, which total over 500,000 sq. ft. of warehousing across the UK. They make more than 2,000 daily deliveries using their fleet of over 100 vehicles achieving a 99% on-time, in-full service.

The business has recently undertaken a large transformation project which will see various areas of the business implement new technologies and processes in order to maintain their market share and further grow. A key area of change is within their IT department, where they are now looking to implement the use of Power BI in order to help the business become more data driven through the analysis of key performance indicators and metrics in addition to having real time data at their disposal in order to paint a picture of the general performance of the business and identification of areas of growth.

The Data Developer will also be responsible for the further development of the business's data function - mainly responsible for gaining insight from the organisations data of which can be used by the wider team to spot trends and opportunities - working with Power BI and T-SQL. The organisation are also in the process of building a DWH in Azure Data Factory, and so the Data Developer will also have the opportunity to aid in its development, ETL packages and more.

The Data Developer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Liaise with various internal stakeholders to gather requirements and identify keys areas of insight
  • Deliver insight and grow a self-service capability across the business through the roll out of Power BI
  • Build trusted data models to support reporting projects including understanding data sources, writing SQL data pipelines and creating and populating data models
  • Design and build sophistication Power BI reports through end-to-end development
  • Aid in the development of internal datawarehouse - utilsing Azure Data Factory

Successful candidates will have the following experience:

  • A minimum of 2 year's experience working in an analytical role
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Experience in end-to-end Power BI development
  • Exposure to back-end data engineering / development - ideally experience with cloud tech
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-starter

The role is offering a salary of circa £50,000 however this is open depending on candidate skillset. This comes in addition to an excellent benefits package that boasts a 6% pension contribution, bonus and more. The role will be based in their Newcastle-Under-Lyme office, however offers a hybrid working pattern of 2-3 days in the office per week (discretionary).
