Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), founded in 1898, was the first institution in the world dedicated to research and teaching in the field of tropical medicine.

As a registered charity, they work across the world, often in very difficult circumstances, to fulfil their mission of reducing the burden of sickness and mortality in disease endemic countries. They do that through the delivery of effective interventions which improve human health and are relevant to the poorest communities.

Overview:
The Data Analyst Apprentice will organise and study data to provide business insight working across a variety of projects, providing technical data solutions to Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) departments and stakeholders.

This is an apprenticeship role, which will result in the achievement of Data Analyst Level 4 Apprenticeship qualification while working as a data analyst. It will enable the development of technical competence in data analysis, data structures, data processes, data integration, and data visualisation.

The data analyst apprentice will work with a variety of data visualization tools to develop and deploy dashboards data sourced from SQL Server data models and other structured data sources.

Salary:
£22,681 per annum. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate effectively with a limited range of people on day-to-day matters 
  • Willing and able to fully understand customer requirements by actively listening and asking questions 
  • Checking own understanding and information provided for accuracy 
  • Play an active part in planning and undertaking personal development and learning, including keeping a record of progress and completing the planned learning in a timely manner 
  • Will describe data items in terms of the data types, mandated and general usage 
  • Explain patterns found during data analysis and their possible causes, e.g., seasonality in data 
  • Process and report data efficiently, using available tools and automation to apply agreed business rules and visualisations whilst maintaining data integrity 
  • Gather, analyse, and report a limited range data and information and present insight using a range of methods such as charts and tables 

Desired skills / attributes: 

  • Previous experience of working with data 
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies 
  • Ability to apply sound judgement in successful task planning and execution 
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for the field and industry 
  • Ability to be flexible in approach 
  • Ability to liaise with supervising staff when complex decisions are required 
  • An understanding and commitment to continuous improvement 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, and individually 

Entry requirements:

  • Level 3 qualification (apprenticeship/A-levels/BTEC, etc)
  • OR equivalent work experience (typically two years in a relevant role)
    Plus:
  • 5 GCSE's, including English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above.
  • Experience with using Excel and Microsoft products (or similar)

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
