Credit Controller

Posted 14 January by Corney & Barrow

At over 230 years old, Corney & Barrow is one of the oldest independent wine merchants in the UK.

We have an opportunity for an experienced credit controller for a 12 month fixed-term contract starting from February/ March 2020. We are based in Midlothian, near Pathhead so your own transport is vital.

Your new role

As Credit Controller, you will be in charge of recording all communications with customers on their specific accounts. You will respond to customer’s requests and/or queries on a daily basis, escalating to the Sales Account Manager where needed. You will pro-actively monitor customer’s orders being held throughout the day, with particular focus at peak periods; placing orders on hold if the customer is over their credit limit or overdue. You will also ensure that all outstanding fees are billed annually, by telephone call, email or letter, with recommendations for future action.

What you'll need to succeed

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have had previous experience self-managing an all-round role that includes sales ledger management and credit control. The ideal candidate will not need to be prompted to carry out reporting and administration tasks, and will strive to minimise requests for information on outstanding debts and risk assessment. This is an all-encompassing role that supports a wide array of customers. It is vital therefore that our style and approach in all communications with customers and colleagues is firm, fair, professional and helpful at all times in what is a very competitive market. Past experience in a luxury retail environment would be an advantage.

What you'll get in return

You will be joining an incredibly welcoming organisation with an attractive salary package (negotiable, DOE). Given the nature of the clientele, your personality will be as much of an asset as your strong skills in Microsoft packages. You will report to an incredibly experienced director who will provide ample training and support to further develop your skills as a credit controller. Given the post is due to start at the end of February, interviews will be taking place in the lead up to this to ensure you are well trained in the role and can benefit from a handover period.
